Our Mission

Congregation To Learn and To Teach Inc. is a Torah-centered religious and educational organization based in Passaic, New Jersey. Led by Rabbi Zecharia Holzer, the congregation is dedicated to prayer, Torah study, teaching, and the preservation and transmission of Jewish scholarly heritage.

A central component of its educational mission is the study, teaching, and publication of the Torah of the Rishonim—the classical rabbinic scholars whose writings form the foundation of traditional Jewish learning.

Through its learning programs, publications, and educational initiatives, the congregation seeks to make the treasures of Torah scholarship accessible to students, scholars, and the broader Jewish community, continuing the enduring tradition of learning, teaching, and transmitting Torah from one generation to the next.

Rabbi Zecharia Holzer 

Rabbi Zecharia Holzer is a scholar, lecturer, and researcher specializing in the Torah of the Rishonim and the study of rare rabbinic manuscripts. His work focuses on recovering, editing, publishing, and teaching previously unpublished Torah texts preserved in manuscript form.

His research frequently involves the comparison and analysis of numerous manuscript witnesses in order to reconstruct lost or incomplete works and establish reliable editions. Many of his projects are based on extensive manuscript research; for example, his edition and commentary on Selichos draws upon more than thirty manuscript sources, with multiple manuscripts sometimes preserving variant versions of the same text.

Through his publications, Rabbi Holzer has brought to light Torah works that were previously unavailable in print or had remained inaccessible to a wider audience.

In addition to manuscript publication, Rabbi Holzer has authored scholarly articles on Jewish customs based on early and classical sources, including topics with practical relevance to contemporary observance. He has also conducted extensive research into the historical context of several major Rishonim, utilizing primary sources and manuscript evidence to clarify questions of chronology, attribution, chains of transmission, and relationships between teachers and students as reflected in the historical record.

Through his scholarship, Rabbi Holzer seeks to make the treasures of classical Torah literature more accessible to students, scholars, and the broader Torah community through carefully prepared editions, research publications, and educational lectures.

The Torah Manuscripts Project

TorahManuscripts.org serves as the congregation’s primary educational and publication platform. Through this project, the congregation preserves, studies, edits, and publishes important Torah manuscripts, making classical Torah works accessible to students, scholars, and the broader public.

The project focuses on preparing manuscript-based editions of classical Torah texts, often involving the collation and comparison of multiple manuscript sources in order to establish accurate and reliable editions of the original works. These publications include careful textual editing and scholarly presentation of material drawn from previously unpublished or difficult-to-access sources.

Educational Programs

In addition to its manuscript publication efforts, the congregation conducts Torah learning programs and develops educational content, including lectures, shiurim, and recorded classes. These initiatives reflect its commitment to fostering Torah study, sharing Torah knowledge, and making the richness of classical Jewish scholarship accessible to the broader community.
